Top 5 old Android Smartphones That Are Still Worth Owning

Today’s Android flagships are sophisticated bits of technology, but some haven’t necessarily made huge leaps over previous handset generations in terms of tech or design. Some of the best features from flagships gone by have even been forgotten or left behind, meaning that there’s a growing back catalogue of unique and feature rich smartphones that are often still competitive with some of today’s best smartphones. In no particular order, here’s my list of old phones that are still probably worth keeping hold of, or even picking up for cheap if you’re shopping on a budget. Samsung Galaxy Note Edge (Note 4) If you want an older handset that still stands up to today’s flagship smartphones, and in many ways laid the groundwork for them, then look no further than September 2014’s Samsung Galaxy Note Edge and to a similar extent its regular Note 4 variant. Many of the Note Edge’s specifications will feel very familiar to anyone who’s scrolled thr...

Samsung has made a habit out of releasing its flagship smartphones in various color variants, and things will be no different with the Galaxy S8. From what we've seen thus far, we are expecting the Galaxy S8 series to have four to six color versions, and one of them should be gold. Published by Evan Blass (@evleaks on Twitter), this new render also shows black and grey/purple variants of the upcoming phone - we've seen these before, of course. Red iPhone 7, 128GB iPhone SE Expected To Be Announced At The March iPad Event!

There was a rumour toward the end of last year that an extra colour option was coming to the iPhone 7. A red colour option was rumoured to be added to the current line of the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus. This may be part of Apple’s (RED) initiative. Apple this year marks the 10th anniversary of supporting (RED) in the fight to end AIDS. The money raised by (RED) funds programs that offer counselling, testing, prevention and, most crucially, the life-saving ARV medication that prevents the transmission of HIV from mothers to their unborn babies. Apple added a few more (RED) products last year like a (RED) iPhone 7 Battery Case, Apple Watch bands etc. A new report according to a trusted Japanese blog Macotakara , which cites a research note from Barclays, Apple might soon launch a red iPhone 7. Some people would rightly point out that Apple has had a red iPhone before, the iPhone 5c, but that was a plastic iPhone. The same rumor first surfaced a few mont...

The Ideal Smartphone for 2017

2016 was another year where, for the most part, it was hard to pick a bad smartphone. Sure, the Galaxy Note 7 was an exploding disaster, and as we predicted the LG G5 was a disappointment, but we saw plenty of other fantastic options from manufacturers both big and small. It also seemed like phone makers in 2016 were listening to consumer feedback and improving their designs to include more features and make fewer trade-offs, and that was a good trend to see. And yet my quest for the perfect handset continues. Some phones came close – I loved the Google Pixel XL and the Galaxy S7 was pretty good, too – but nothing was without fault. I still caught manufacturers packing weak batteries in their most powerful phones, while loading out their budget options with massive batteries. I still struggled to use some horrendous software distributions, even though stock Android is available for all to implement. And I still saw phones that failed to include key features, like mi...
